Conform using EDL?

Hi, is it possible to conform a Pro Tools session using an EDL? Have tried loading an audio file (.BWAV) for the old sequence, and an audio EDL for the new sequence, but it won’t find any matches/diffs.

Have also tried loading an AAF of a single wav that’s been cut for both old and new sequences with no luck.

We have had success with Video and Audio file matching, but are wondering if using an EDL for the new cut would provide a more accurate conform.

Cheers!

I do this all the time, have a look at this video, might help.

Hey,
You can’t compare an EDL to an audio file, so that’s not going to do anything.
You normally need an EDL from each version of the cut, and matchbox can compare those to figure out where the moves are.

What I THINK you’re trying to achieve is to use an EDL (or AAF) of some audio track (like your previous temp mix) which has been cut up by the picture editor. If this is what you have, you can use it as the map of the changes, without need to compare anything to anything.

You just drop it into the NEW timeline, select the clips (e.g. the old dialog stem, hacked up) and call “Promote Selected Clips To Match Ranges”. Now you can check it makes sense against the pix/guides in Matchbox, then run the reconform.

Let me know if that’s not the workflow you’re trying to achieve.
