New to reconfirming, no diffs found

Hello, I have a new cut, a V2 AAF that does nicely into the New Seq part of MB. I have lots of DX edits in Pro Tools, exported an AAF (v1) and that looks correct in the Old Seq window. But no matter what Compare choice I try, there are no Diffs showing up after MB Compares, audio, video, or anything. I’ve tried with and without selecting the clips in both windows. Also exported a .MOV form Pro Tools to add to the Old MB section. Really at a loss at why I can’t get MB to find Diffs. I’d appreciate any help you can offer. Thank you!

So you exported your Pro Tools session as the “Old” timeline?
This is wrong - you never send your pro tools session to matchbox.

Matchbox compares the Picture, or the AAF, or EDL etc, from the picture dept. from 2 versions of the film. It figures out what has changed in terms of chunks of footage (ranges) which lived at some time in the old cut, and now live at some other time in the new cut.

So your pro tools session should never enter the equation until it’s time for matchbox to Run Reconform on your session - performing each of those copy/paste steps to re-assemble your work in a way which matches the cut changes between v6 and v7.

Also - AAF exports from Pro Tools are broken. Always have been. We dont officially support them or recommend any workflow which includes them.

Admittedly, I was grasping at straws trying the AAF from Pro tools. But no matter what I try, I can’t get MB to ID any matches between the AAFs from the editor. Then, I did a ton of editing work in PT, then received radically re-cut AAF from the editor. No matter what I try, I can’t get MB to ID any matches, even between the AAFs from the editor (non-PT exported).

Which NLE created the AAFs? Premiere makes new audio files with new timecode values every single time, so those AAFs are useless.

There’s a “letter to the editor” on the Matchbox page which details the best formats for each NLE.

I believe the editor uses Da Vinci. I check the article you referenced, and share that information with the editor. Thank you!
